Veterinary Externship Program

The Eye Vets is a progressive veterinary ophthalmology practice that embraces a culture of mutual respect and teamwork while providing outstanding patient care and customer service.  At The Eye Vets, we have two big motivators. First, to enhance the lives of animals by providing excellent eye care, preserving vision, and promoting overall comfort and well-being. Second, to act as a reliable, accessible, and compassionate resource to our referring veterinarians whenever they need our assistance with their patients. We offer an externship program for veterinary students enrolled in their third or fourth years of veterinary school, or veterinarians completing their rotating internship, for rotations of one to three weeks in length to fulfill private practice or elective curriculum requirements.

At The Eye Vets, we are committed to lifelong learning. Our objective is to educate externs by providing learning opportunities that will build upon the extern’s knowledge base and clinical skills. We are dedicated to fostering a learning environment that values hands-on experience, mentorship from seasoned specialists, and exposure to innovative diagnostic and surgical approaches to ophthalmology cases.

Requirements

Once the Externship Request Form is completed and the proof of AVMA PLIT coverage is submitted, externs will receive a Liability Waiver to sign and return, an orientation packet including expectations, and a schedule. Externs are expected to attend any journal clubs that occur during their time with us and will be asked to give a brief, 10 minute case presentation for The Eye Vets staff. This usually occurs as a lunch presentation. For more information or questions please email: extern@theeyevets.com
